Palermo were 120 years ago and celebrate in style
Moustaches, grease, a fierce look, hard court fields, and old footballs sewn by hand. Italian Serie C side Palermo presents its new 120th anniversary commemorative kit. A homage to the football pioneers in Palermo, introduced by the English who first founded the Anglo Palermitan Athletic and Football Club in November, 1900. It was also thanks to the British technicians, already busy in the construction of the Sicilian capital’s shipyard, that football was spread in Palermo, giving life to a never ending passion.
Produced by manufacturers Kappa and designed by historian Giovanni Tarantino, even the colours are out of the ordinary. For the first time in the club’s history, the classic pink and black is switched for white and blue: the colours of the first logo in Palermo’s history from 1920. On the left side of the chest is new interpretation of the logo, a stylized eagle designed in 2019 and the first two corporate symbols, with the words Palermo Fbc.
For the launch of the new kit, Palermo players Andrea Accardi, Niccolò Corrado, Malaury Martin, Nicola Rauti, and Michele Somma set foot in an unusual location: the old hard court field of the Fincantieri, one of the oldest working fields in the city.
The shirt will be worn for the first and only time in the Palermo-Bari match on December 23rd, the last match of 2020, at the end of a long cycle of celebrations for the foundation’s anniversary. A path that, starting in November, has already seen a new special stamp and the opening of Palermo Museum with hundreds of memorabilia, kits, and interactive facilities dedicated to the history of Palermo. After the 23rd of December, the new combinative kit will be exhibited inside the museum, never to be worn again.
