A Revolution in Football Aerodynamics
The official ball for the upcoming Serie A 2020/21 season has been revealed.
The ‘Nike Flight’ Serie A TIM 2020/21 official ball has been released and is based on Nike’s new ‘Flight’ range. With an ultra modern look and aerowsculpt technology that uses moulded grooves to “disrupt airflow”, the ball is a stark difference from the previous Merlin range.
“Honed over 8 years and 1,700 hours of testing, the Nike Flight Football is a revolution in consistent flight. Moulded grooves and 3D-printed ink fine-tune flight through the air to help players put the ball exactly where they want it.“
Nike Flight, a game-changing football, addresses issues of inconsistent aerodynamics through a revolutionary ball design. Incorporating Nike’s new AerowSculpt technology, the ball delivers a measurable benefit of 30 percent truer flight than its Nike predecessor.
The Nike Flight ball concludes an eight-year investigation into improving consistency of football flight by the Nike Equipment Innovation Lab. There, insights from players are addressed in three stages: Explore, Recreate and Innovate. For the Nike Flight ball, the Explore phase used several tracking systems to measure ball flight of different types of kicks throughout game play. This helped the Lab to understand what conditions the ball experiences during play, and allowed engineers to link quantifiable measurements to elite players.
