New horizons for Cagliari & Adidas
Cagliari Calcio have revealed their brand new home and away kits, produced by new kit supplier Adidas. It’s exciting times at Cagliari, who recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the club, with a new manager, plans for a new stadium (Cagliari Arena), and now a fresh new look.
Cagliari’s new deal with Adidas see the German company replace Macron, who had been the technical supplier of the Sardinians since the 2016-17 season and had three more years left on their deal. Its an interesting move by Cagliari, who possibly see a move to Adidas as a big chance to improve their brand and availability of kits worldwide, yet at the same time they will lose some of the excellent customised kits Macron produced for them the last few years. They become only the second club in Serie A to join with Adidas, following Juventus (along with Pisa and Virtus Entella in Serie B).
As with previous Cagliari kits (see our rankings from last season), the home and away kits are dominated by sponsors, but unlike a lot of other clubs, I always felt Cagliari’s Isola and Birra Ichnusa adds something to their shirts, giving them a unique, local identity (albeit things are looking a bit squashed on the front of the shirts). White sleeves are added to the traditional red and blue home kit, to represent the history of Cagliari Calcio and ‘a glimpse of our future’. Another striking aspect is the appearance of gold monochrome logos, as well as gold on the Adidas stripes on the shoulders. The back is completely red with white names and numbers edged with blue.
The white away follows a similar theme to Macron’s away version from last season, with thin, dashed red lines placed at an angle, with red and blue trimmings on the cuffs and collar. On the shoulders, tone-on-tone mesh inserts give greater breathability, while on the back the names and numbers will appear in blue with a red border.
