Puma takes over after 15 years of Nike
The new Puma ‘Orbita’ ball takes inspiration from Italian progressive art, using bold graphics to design the official match ball for the 2022-23 season. It’s the first ball the brand has designed for Serie A since its partnership with the league announced in March.
The Italian tricolour outlines the abstract graphics that feature a colourway pallet of blue tones. The ball itself is constructed from 12 large star-shaped panels, making it more durable as the number of seams is reduced.
State-of-the-art technology is also used to create the best spherical shape, allowing the ball to maintain its shape while assisting with less water absorption. The vivid pink Puma logo ties together a sophisticated-looking ball.
To present the new ORBITA Serie A ball, the German brand created the ‘New Ball, New Culture’ campaign, which was developed by mixing elements of Italian culture with more modern and disruptive details and features PUMA legends Giorgio Chiellini and Gigi Buffon, who have made Serie A history, alongside PUMA champions Alessandro Bastoni, Emil Audero, Alex Sandro, Olivier Giroud, Milan Škriniar and Davide Frattesi.
“Over the last year and a half we have developed, tested and modified the new ORBITA to create a ball that offers top-level performance. The new star-shaped 12-panel configuration results in exceptional ball contact,” said Thomas Schwarz, PUMA Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Individual.
The Puma Serie A official match ball for 2022-23 is available to buy from the Puma site from July 1.
